In case you missed the explanation, my introduction back into blogging will begin with a blast from the past. In honor of my three-year college graduation anniversary, I’m going to be re-publishing my original blog content.
This is the eighth installment of “The Original Surviving The Real World: Tips from my Former Self”.
Part 8: How to develop a morning routine
Take it all with a grain of salt, and enjoy the journey!
Develop a morning routine (and be consistent)
The word “routine” isn’t there for dramatic effect. It’s essential to find a way to focus your mind and prepare your spirit for the day ahead. You’ll be ready to face the challenges coming your way if you take an extra 30 minutes to an hour for yourself in the morning.
1. Have a set wakeup time
Wake up at the same time every morning (this applies whether it’s Tuesday or Saturday). I promise, if you set a schedule of events and stick to it, after a few weeks it will just become habit. Forming a new habit will make it much easier to get your ass out of bed the morning after happy hour turned into an all-night event.
2. Ease into the morning
Make a pot of coffee, find a relaxing space to have a few (or thirty) minutes of quiet time with the Lord, and prepare for the day. Wake yourself up mentally and spiritually in a way that doesn’t involve frantically applying makeup or cramming on your shoes as your run out the door ten minutes late (again).
3. Eat breakfast
It really is the most important meal of the day. Your body needs a jump-start after 8+ hours of not eating. While it’s nice to eat a decent meal during your quiet time, at the very least grab a banana or something on your way out the door. You’ll be thanking me when 10:00am rolls around and your mind is able to function properly.
Wake up at a consistent time. Start your day with the Lord. Eat breakfast. None of these activities are giant sacrifices on your part, but they will give you a tremendous advantage heading into the day. Learn how to start out your morning the right way, and you’ll begin to see every other aspect of your life improve.
