In case you missed the explanation, my introduction back into blogging will begin with a blast from the past. In honor of my three-year college graduation anniversary, I’m going to be re-publishing my original blog content.
This is the final installment of “The Original Surviving The Real World: Tips from my Former Self”.
Part 10: Seek the Lord
Take it all with a grain of salt, and enjoy the journey!
Find out who God is
Personally, I had a hard time with this one. I grew up going to church and then at some point just fell away. I never doubted the existence of God, but I was a long way from having any sort of a relationship with Him. By His grace, He is always wanting to bring us back to Him.
Jeremiah 29:13-14 gives us this promise, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.”
He loves you and he wants a deeper relationship with you. This step is incredibly simple and yet incredibly difficult at the same time…seek Him
Open the Word.
Pray over your time in the Word before you even open your bible. Ask Him to show you what to read and ask for your eyes and heart to be open to His guidance and grace. He wants to be found by you.
Study the World.
I suggest starting with a bible study (especially if reading the bible is new for you). Personally I’m a Beth Moore fanatic – I love her bible studies and recommend them strongly to anyone wanting to get deep into the Word. I love that they can be done as a group or individually (although the videos are $5 each so it’s easier on the wallet to find a group).
If you would prefer studying one book of the bible at a time, I also recommend Bible Study Fellowship. It is an in-depth look at the Word and lasts 9 months. There are classes all over the world, all days of the week (and most are offered mornings and evenings). If you’re really wanting to dive in head-first, this group is the place to be.
Go to church.
Not all churches were created equal. Ask to be led to the church where you can really make a home for yourself. Find a place where you feel His presence with you every time you go in and where you can get involved with the church community. We were not meant to walk this life alone and the most effective support system is right there waiting for you.
A relationship with the Lord is something you have to fight for. Knowing who He is requires being in the Word DAILY. Even five minutes spent with Him is better than nothing. This is really a matter of priorities. Think about how much time you spend every day doing things that are absolutely useless (and things that are hurting your heart more than helping you). He deserves to be the first priority in your life and this requires sacrifice. Take up your cross daily and follow Him.
Ask Him to show you who He is. Seriously, just ask. He will show up in wonderful ways.
Back to present day
Thanks for sticking with me, fellow RHIT! I hope you’ve enjoyed the final installment of “The Original Surviving The Real World: Tips from my Former Self”.
I’ve loved sharing this piece of my history, and I hope you were able to take something away from it (if only a laugh). Check back in next week as I go back to posting present-day blog posts!
